----------You only have so much
in Pell Grant, Supplemental Opportunity
Grant and state grant money so do not allow it
to be taken away by scams.
Go to the and check out colleges that are recommended for mothers.
------------Do
not miss out on the on campus experience at your local state
college or state university. It will be where you will
make contacts and friends that will benefit you the rest of your
life, where you can peruse the library, stop off at professor's
offices to ask questions and enjoy the athletic centers, free
movies and campus speakers and events.
----------The on line
colleges do not offer this benefit. Fly-by-night colleges that meet in sub-standard
buildings, cramming too many students in too few classrooms,
offer to take your grants, give you loans and give you little
in return. Very few students graduate from these places
and then the students have loans to pay back with nothing to
show for it. Instead go to the state subsidized universities.
----------The
state colleges such as the University of Nebraska, the University
of Alabama or the University of Florida are inexpensive, have
on campus often subsidized or free day care and on campus affordable
housing.
----------Remember you have
a right to be on college campuses. But you must fight for
it so others can come behind you!!

Mom (Hyperion, 1998)
