Student Mom at St. Mary's College in Nebraska

by Jennifer Biesendorfer

--------As a first year student, college can be a little overwhelming, especially with child. I chose to go to College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska because they have wonderful programs that are made for women. They consider every aspect of a woman's life.

--------As a single mom, I am allowed to live on campus in special dorms with other moms. My tuition is taken care of by financial aid and a small loan. When I talked to their Financial Aid councilor about paying for college, she set it up so the only thing I would have to pay for was my books. And as far as loans are, I do not have to pay them off until six months after I graduate.

--------When it comes to my classes, I have a schedule set up that works with my son and my work. They offer wonderful study groups that I can bring my son to. He gets to play with other children around his age, while us moms study. My first year of college has been one of my best experiences because I am not going through everything by myself. I have a support system
of women in my situation that understand and lend a helping hand when I need it.

--------Of course sometimes all things get hard, but that is life. And I would not change mine for the world.
