  College Dad

 Noah Ciaccio

shows his son how to be a successful college student at McNeese State University
Noah Ciaccio is a single dad that decided at age 32 to become a College Dad.
He was already a successful owner of a computer business and he spent four years of active duty in the Army, but he wanted the self-sufficiency that a degree in computer science could give him, so he enrolled at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Now a freshman, he says his son AJ, six years old, assists his dad with his schoolwork by sitting beside him while he's studying and AJ pitches in with the housework, too, by helping with the dishes.
Noah says he has been able to balance working, studying and taking care of AJ because he schedules his classes and work during AJ's school hours, which are extended by an after school program that costs $30 a week. He also saved time by taking advantage of McNeese's off campus learning program by signing up for an on-line class which met on campus only one day a week.
Last semester he was able to manage finances well enough to not have to take out any school loans, a great goal for all College Parents.  Noah has the extra expense of paying for more expensive off campus housing because the only on campus housing at McNeese is a one bedroom apartment which is reasonable at $250 a month, but not large enough for a family.

His advice to other College Dads? "Don't let your child become distant from other kids," he says. Even though working and studying can be overwhelming, make time, Noah says, to be sure your child is socializing with other kids.  Be sure to go to play dates, playgrounds, athletic games, church and community events and family gatherings and take time so that your child can have fun just goofing around, being silly and laughing. Probably good advice for all College Moms and College Dads.
